Congratulations everyone for a fantastic first performance of the year!! We sang and did our actions in front of lots of parents and families. Afterwards we discussed our feelings
Video to follow! With Peace Day falling tomorrow we decided to learn more about peace. We listened to a story; examined lots of different symbols of peace and then created peace symbols from clay! This year Powerstown ETNS area participating in “The 2018 European Week of Sport.” Physical Activity will be celebrated in our school from 24th – 28th of September!
Why are we participating? It is important that our pupils get 60 minutes of moderate physical activity per day. Although the school day is very short, we encourage our pupils to #beactive and believe that is strongly supports their mental well-being, and therefore enables them to reach their true academic potential! So, next week, each class will participate in daily exercises! Please ensure that your child wears runners and appropriate clothing to school. Rehearsals for Peace Day are in full swing! Today we will a whole class rehearsal and it was fantastic! We are performing our song with the Hazel and Lime classes. It was also great to see the performances by the other classes too. If you are available on Friday morning at 9am it would be wonderful to see you there!
Our theme for September is 'Myself' so in History we have started to learn about personal timelines. Today we looked at teacher's timeline - examining photos from when Aoife was a baby; then a child; next a teenager and finally an adult! It was lots of fun noticing things that have changed or stayed the same. Now it's our turn to create our own personal timelines - so we will need some photos from all the children in the class is possible. We are suggesting one baby photo and maybe one a little younger than they are now. These can be sent in as hardcopies or emailed to me at [email protected] by next Tuesday/Wednesday. We can't wait to create our own timelines and discuss how much we have grown and changed!
All month we have been learning about different feelings - identifying and naming them/expressing them and talking about them. Every morning as part of our morning meeting we have a 'feelings check-in' with everyone to see how they are doing. We've played emotions charades; learned about the Calm Corner and strategies to calm down if we feel upset/angry/stressed; ways we can support our friends if they are not feeling happy and today we used play-doh to show feelings on faces! We are so lucky! Today the Birch Class attended their first group ukulele lessons (along with the Rowan Class). Every Tuesday for eleven weeks we will attend these lessons with our wonderful new music teachers! We are very excited about what songs we will learn. Our first corridor display of our work - showing our personalised poems 'Happy to be me' and self-portraits! Great work Birch Class
Continuing our work on colour theory today we explored tints and shades. We learned that a 'tint' is created by adding white to a colour while a 'shade' is created by adding black to a colour. We experimented with lots of colours creating tints and shades and then had some free painting at the end with all the colours we created!
