Today we learned about the story of milk and then about how butter was made long ago. We learned about the stages - milking the cow, churning the butter, patting the butter with paddles and (best of all), tasting the butter. We decided to have a go ourselves - we poured cream into a little jar and shook it as hard as we could. Then - almost magically - the liquid cream turned into a solid(ish) butter! There was also some buttermilk in the jar which we learned, could be used to make bread. Our work was rewarded with the chance to taste the lovely butter we made! We decided it was very tasty. We were surprised to learn that this butter has no salt and most butter we buy in the shop has lots of salt!
