We undertook an experiment to dissolve different liquids in water. Firstly we added food colouring to our water samples - it mixed very well! Next we added cooking oil - it was very interesting! The oil moved around but settled at the top of the water sample. We learned that oil is heavier than water and will always sit on the top of it. Finally we added washing up liquid - it floated all the way down to the bottom of the water sample in bubble and stayed there! We had three layers then of oil, water and washing up liquid! We examined the samples the next day and they had turned into one creamy mixture at the top and the food colouring water underneath.
